Dogs biting people at Drake Field and on cart path; man shoots dog

Two dog bites were reported in a two-day period in Peachtree City, along with a third incident involving a man who shot a dog in what was determined to be self-defense.

A Peachtree City officer on June 18 responded to a Wynnmeade Parkway residence in reference to a dog being shot.

Peachtree City Police Department spokesman Chris Hyatt said a neighbor heard a commotion and went outside to find juveniles playing with a pit bull mix that was not on a leash, adding that the kids in the yard were also playing with the man’s children.

At one point, the dog attacked the man’s cat, though the man did not see the cat in the dog’s mouth. He thought the dog might be trying to attack the children who were in proximity, said Hyatt.

The man then secured a certain and shot the dog, Hyatt said.

Officers on the scene determined that the dog was shot in self-defense, the report said.

The dog and owner were transported by a neighbor to a veterinary hospital in Fayetteville, the report noted.

One of the two dog bite incidents occurred at Drake Field on June 20 at approximately 3:20 pm

Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complainant who indicated that she was bitten by a dog at Drake Field while she was trying to help a woman keep her small dog from escaping the leash, the police report said.

The dog bit the woman trying to help, with Hyatt noting there were no visible wounds.

The owner of the dog left the area before police arrived, Hyatt said.

In another dog bite case, Hyatt said the June 18 incident began when a woman was walking two dogs on leashes on the cart path near Walt Banks Road and lost control of one of the dogs, a German Shepherd.

The dog got loose and bit a woman who was walking on the path, police reports said.

In a different type of case, a homeless man was charged with DUI at the Kroger store on Crosstown Drive after harassing people in the store’s parking lot while riding on one of the store’s shopping scooters.

An officer on June 18 at approximately 10:38 pm responded to the location in reference to a male on a Kroger shopping scooter that was driving around the parking lot throwing trash at a motorcycle and cursing at people, the police report said.

After investigation, the driver of the store’s motorized shopping cart, 51-year-old Joseph Boogher, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol, the report said.
