Jake The Dog Character Guide (Best Tips & Strategies)

Adventure Time’s Jake the Dog is one of the four starting characters on the roster for MultiVersus, a cross-platform fighting game.

There are four starting characters in the new fighting platformer game MultiVersusand Jake the Dog from the beloved cartoon Adventure Time is one of them. MultiVersus is the Warner Bros. answer to other multi-fandom fighters like Marvel’s Avengers or Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. It’s a long-awaited game that has been in Beta for a while but will fully release on July 26, 2022. Once the game is out, the creators will likely drop more MultiVersus characters for players to unlock.

While Jake the Dog is free for players to control at the beginning of the game, other characters are available for purchase in the in-game store. MultiVersus is coming out as a free-to-play game, but to supplement this decision, there will be microtransactions. Other playable characters can be bought using gold, an in-game currency which players can earn through missions and challenges. However, other in-game currencies, like Gleamium, can only be purchased with real money and will be used to unlock alternative skins and other customizables.

Jake the Dog works best as a melee/DPS that specializes in ranged attacks, although his melee physical attacks are great as well. Jake is a relatively short character, but he packs a powerful punch – literally. Since Jake can hold his own in combat, he would be a great choice for a 1v1 battle in MultiVersus or any team battles, so players looking for a good all-around character should consider leveling up Jake.

Jake the Dog Strategies And Moves For MultiVersus

As a hybrid melee/DPS character in MultiVersus, Jake the Dog can work well as a ranged attacker or up front dealing the bulk of the damage. Players should use his ranged attacks, though, as they have incredible reach compared to other melee characters, giving him an edge. The following is a list of Jake the Dog’s best moves:

  • Rubber Stomach, DudeNeutral + Special – Jake will eat his opponent like Wario in Smash Bros. or Kirby at his Dream Buffet. Jake can then walk around with the opponent in his belly, and spit them out as a projectile. Alternatively, Jake can eat an ally, who will then choose the projectile direction. It’s a strange move, but effective.
  • Neigh and Stuff, Side + Special – Jake will transform into a horse that can charge into opponents. The longer players hold down the special button, the longer the move lasts. Allies can jump on Horse-Jake and use him as a platform.
  • That’s Heavy, Dude, Down + Special – Jake randomly transforms into either a house, car, or boat. The longer players hold down the special button, the longer they will be transformed. He slowly moves across the ground, bouncing projectiles and doing damage. Allies can jump on him as a springboard, and when doing so, will create a shockwave that spreads out, doing damage.
  • Stretchin’ Out, Up + Special – Jake will stretch his body like a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man. If an opponent hits stretchy-Jake, they will take damage. Once Jake snaps back, he will do damage to anyone he hits. Only Jake’s head can be damaged when he’s stretched out.

Jake the Dog also has special Perks, which are special abilities. Players can have four perks active at a time. There are two types of perks: Signature Perks that are MultiVersus character-specific, and Universal Perks which any character can use. Each character has two Signature Perks that unlock at levels 8 and 10. Jake the Dog’s Signature Perks are the Sticky Perk, where enemies that touch stretchy Jake are stunned, making them easier to hit, and the Stay Limber Perk, where Jake’s House ability bounces back into the air after hitting the ground.
