Stray Modder is Putting Players’ Cats into the Game

Stray mods have added everything from San Andreas’ CJ to Garfield to the game, with one modder adding players’ cats by commission.

Annapurna Interactive and BlueTwelve’s Stray has been viral since its release, with players obsessing over the cat game and even posting images of their animals reacting to the game. It’s pretty simple overall, with running sections, simply jumping platforming, and so on, but there’s something about the novelty of a cat game with a dedicated meow button that has captured fan attention.

That’s not to say it’s perfect, however, and one fan-requested feature didn’t make it into the game. Fans want to customize their cat in Stray to look how they want to look, but it was revealed early on that this wouldn’t be possible. The explanation is that this is the story of this specific cat, and while that’s true from a certain point of view, the design of the cat in Stray has nothing to do with the story. It is what it is, but there’s no doubt some fans wish they could make it look like their cat.

Now, one Stray modder is doing just that over on Nexus Mods (as pointed out by Eurogamer). Modder NorskPL has been taking commissions for specific additions to the game. It’s all based on a name-your-own-base price, with some elements depending on the complexity of the mod. Several uploads have already been added to NexusMods, for anyone who may want to look at their available mods already.

It should be noted that NorskPL’s service has jumped in popularity since they began, and as a result, they’ve closed commissions until August 15. This is because of the number of requests already submitted. Fans can wait and see if any of the designs added match their cat, or for those who want a dedicated cat mod, it may be worth following NorskPL and waiting for them to re-open commissions. It’s no doubt taxing work, so for anyone looking for Norsk’s services, they should be patient. After all, it’s a highly demanded and popular service. Of course, those looking for other mods are likely aware that there are tons of mods out there already. One will turn the cat into an disturbing depiction of CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, while another turns the cat into Garfield. Overall, there’s a lot of potential here for however someone is looking to customize their Stray experience.

Stray is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
