July 8, 2022

Looking to learn something new this summer? Save the date for these in-person lectures!

Shore to Please: Highlights of the Jersey Shore | Monday, July 11 @ 7pm

Do you know that the Jersey Shore has a great deal more to offer than soft sand, sun, and surf? Take the “plunge” and travel along with amateur photographer and historian Mario Medici from Sandy Hook to Cape May and you’ll discover an array of fascinating towns and history to go with them.

Lighthouses, beaches, forts, historic buildings, shipwrecks, are among the myriad discoveries, so be sure to bring your notepads, as you may wish to write down some interesting factoids. This Jersey Shore presentation is “Shore to Please.” The program is open to all and no registration is required. It is made possible with the support of The Friends of the Livingston Public Library.

How to Speak Dog | Monday, August 1 @ 7pm

Want to go to the next level with training your canine family member? If so, this informative and fun presentation by professional dog trainer Brett Shelby, which will go beyond the basics, is just for you. In this workshop you will learn more about your canine friends in order to better understand them, so that you can get more of what you want through a positive direction. Brett will show you how to strengthen your relationship with your dog through proper communication and trust.

What’s more, Brett will be bringing in a dog that has never been worked with before, to demonstrate his teachings. There will be time for Q & A with the trainer at the end of the session. The program is open to all and no registration is required.

Amtrak: Staying “On Track” With America’s Railroad | Monday, August 8 @ 7pm

Riding the rails — it’s a beloved experience that many prefer to plane or car travel. There are no security lines and no traffic, plus the benefit of wider seats and more legroom. Join us for a historical and informational lecture on Amtrak routes, services, travel tips, recent accomplishments (ie Positive Train Control and Penn Station Moynihan Hall), and ongoing projects, by travel writer and lecturer David Kriso. The presentation will also include some post-COVID notes, news on new stations, as well as an Amtrak routes trivia. Prizes will be awarded to lucky winners!

Besides being a prolific writer and travel expert, David is a veteran cruise line guest port services agent in the New York area. He has also worked at the ports of Boston, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, and New Orleans. David is a life-long Disney traveler, a cruise traveler since age sixteen, and a railroad traveler since age four. The program is open to all and no registration is required. It is made possible with the support of The Friends of the Livingston Public Library.

We hope to see you at one of these in-person events!
